Every Wednesday this summer I will be found sitting in front of the Public Market in Monument Square from 9:00-3:00 spinning and basking in the sun (hopefully). This picture is of one of the most delightful people I met at the Farmer's Market on Monument Square in Portland yesterday. It was a cold, grey, not quite rainy day and she lit up the square. Doesn't she look like The Spirit of Farmer's Market personified? She very graciously let me take her picture with my invaluable iPhone which is the only camera that I can use. I was completely charmed.

And here I am looking around the market to see if any more delightful Farmer's Market Sprites are going to show up. But no....she was the only one. I did, however, meet many wonderful people. This is the real reason that I will be going every week. My friend Margaret comes to help me and keep me company and we have a really wonderful time talking to people, talking to each other, and watching the busy life of Portland wander by. Yesterday I picked up some Mediterranean mutton sausage and beet greens for dinner from one of the farmers and little herb plants from another to restock my indoor herb garden

Margaret's daughter Madeleine took the pics of me. She was a close runner up in the wonderful smiling face category to the Farmer's Market Sprite. She wandered around and came back with a vegetarian sandwich of deliciousness which she shared. This is the "sunny" portion of the day. Earlier on Margaret and I covered the table with a tarp to fend off the very heavy drizzle that was attempting to morph into rain and retreated into the Public Market to get hot drinks and keep an eye on the weather.
Buit by this time (around 1:00) the weather had cleared up. You can see Ms. Beasley sitting in the yarn basket full of Maine alpaca/merino yarn. Everything in the basket....including Ms. Beasley...is available on my etsy site. If you can make it to the market on Wednesdays please do so, but if you can't don't be left out of all the fun. Go onto the etsy site and see if there is anything there that you need.
