I made this quilt as a wedding present for a much loved nephew and his bride. These two people met and fell in love when they were very young. What I particularly admired about them was the way in which they loved each other without constraints. He went to college in New England and New York. She pursued dance here in Portland and then Boston. They saw more of each other when they both went to London for graduate work. It was almost 10 years after they met that they married and I have never seen a wedding so happy and well deserved. It was both a fitting end to the mutual respect and committment of their courtship and the wonderful beginning to their marriage.

| Her symbol is the pomegranite -- beautiful and exotic, tart and sweet, reaching skyward. His is the squash fruit and blossom -- wholesome, grounded and sustaining. His design is around the outside of the quilt reaching inward....her's is in the center reaching outward and intertwined with his.
Both of these are fertility symbols and no small part of their Bountiful Harvest are the two beautiful children that they have created together. But I don't think the quilt can take all the credit for that.
